Still alive, a quick follow-up on the past few months

Yes, we are still alive, working very hard on several different things: client projects, new upcoming release of Picons and a collaboration app start-up called Zepppelin. I feel kind of bad for not having enough time to update the blog more often.

THIRD RELEASE OF PICONS

As you already know, Picons are royalty-free vector icons (pictograms) for all kinds of designers, drawn by our studio. The release date, for the new third set of the Picons Basic, has been pushed forward but we are working very hard on the final polishing. New icons will share the same visual style as the previous sets, therefore it’s a must-have for all Picons lovers (sneak peak from Dribbble).

ZEPPPELIN

In September I joined a small team of colleagues to work on a new collaboration tool, which allows you to reach your team members and connect with all your favorite business related apps (like Basecamp, MailChimp, Dropbox, analytics tools, etc). Zepppelin is advanced in the way how it serves live information from different cloud apps, but on the other hand extremely minimalistic, simple and fast. For that reason, we moved to San Francisco, CA. As of today, the project is in a private beta phase and will go public in middle the of November. We will keep you up to date about it.

Pictograms rebrand – Picons.me coming soon

Morphix Pictograms became Picons.me. It’s a personal project with a new brand, new pictograms and new website. I’ve been working on it since October last year (a sneak peek on Flickr) and expect it will be ready to launch in a month or two. I would love to release the new site sooner, but I also have plenty other open projects for my clients.

The new site will contain – beside the existing bundle, which is still available for download – several new ones that will be regularly added. The idea is to make a web store with unique vector icons for designers, for a very affordable price.

Pictograms – a first résumé & what’s coming next

It has been a little more than two months, after I released Morphix Pictograms – a set of 140 vector icons for graphic designers. I have to admit, it was a great success. I’ve got a lot of positive feedback and mentions on Twitter and other websites.

I’m planning to release a second set in January 2011. I already started to work on the new edition. Here are some concepts of different face characters, which will be included.

It’s really exciting to play with minimal graphical elements and the simplicity of each pictogram. Looking forward to finally release the Pictograms vol 2.

A little refresh, on what was going on lately

As I twittered few weeks ago, I underwent a risky eye surgery. Luckily, everything went well, so I can work again without problems. Therefore I was forced to take some time to relax, charge my batteries and get some inspiration for the future. Inspite all the pain, I enjoyed it much.

A sneak peek of the visual identity for Tridens, a Slovene based IT company, providing innovative IT solutions, consulting, and software engineering services.

Elumina & Elumina CMS

Elumina is a small Slovene web development company. The word “Elumina” comes from “lumina”, plural of “lumen”, which is a unit of standard measurement used to describe how much light is contained in a certain area. I have done two logotypes for them, one was for the brand Elumina and the second for their Content Management System. Both logotypes are trying to be different and related at the same time. The colorful shapes symbolize overlapping rays of light.

Hostko

Hostko (old site) is one of the leading webhosting and domain registrar in Slovenia. The blog, you are reading right now, is also hosted by them. Here is a screenshot of their new website, which is – at this time – still in construction.

Spored.tv

Spored.tv is a TV guide website, covering the main Slovenian TV stations and some other cable channels.

Oh, yeah, another good news. The blog got a high visitor jump, as it was mentioned as #1 in Psdtuts+‘ article 40 Brilliantly Illustrated Web Designs. Thank you guys, I have been very honored.

Designing an iPhone App for a Real-time Collaboration tool

I am presenting some screenshots of an Apple iPhone App that I designed lately for a client called Flowr. We signed a long-term partnership for designing their website (but not the logotype) and user interface of the application. So, what is Flowr? Flowr is a brand new Real-time Collaboration tool that keeps everyone up-to-date and a way to improve communication between co-workers.

It has been a great challenge for me to design their iPhone App. And the first time for me as well. The documentation for the development of iPhone Apps is good and detailed. Many different parts such as drop-downs, input boxes, check boxes… are already well designed by Apple and ready to use in our 3rd party applications. I used them too.

Being digitally robbed

I was very angry today. I found out that a Mexican web Agency Smart2Web ripped of my portfolio page and named it Enchulame Misitio (the website is offline at this time). Actually, a Twitter user discovered that my site has been plagiarized, and started to tweet about it.

They didn’t just stole the concept or minor graphic parts, but made an exact copy of it, including some of the texts and parts of the client list. Yes, they left some clients in the portfolio section, as their own. I wrote an email to the publisher of Echulame Misitio immediately. Surprisingly, I’ve got an answer and the site was removed very quickly.

I’ve made some screen shots:

The thing is, it wasn’t the first time. A month ago, a guy from India made an almost exact copy of it, with his own logo on it. After sending him an email, the site was offline in a few hours.

However, I’m still happy that my site has been an inspiration for other designers. I know that the concept of it isn’t really new and that there are bunch of websites using the same concept of navigation, but I still get a lot of positive response from visitors.

Designing an offline magazine for a local shopping center

I have been working on a 12-page newspaper for a shopping center in Slovenia, in the past few days. I admit, it was a great challenge for me. I learned a lot of InDesign tricks, useful when designing offline magazines.

It’s been a tradition that I publish a wallpaper for my readers every year. The past year was great for me. I’ve done a lot of work, some designs I’m proud of and finally got a degree in Laws. A busy but positive year. Launching my new website in English and submit it to some design galleries was the way to go. I’m still getting great response from visitors. Thank you!

UniqueCSS 2009 finalists & blog redesign coming soon

The reason I haven’t wrote for so long is that I’m preparing a complete redesign of this blog. The design work is almost finished. Workplace renovation

A well equipped, organized and comfortable workplace has always been very important to me. As a long term PC user it wasn’t really non-problematic switching to a Mac. My first Mac came very late, it was an Intel based MacBook 13,3 inch. I bought it more for checking out how the Mac environment would feel, than do some real work on it. Then the iPhone came and a Mac based machine seemed to be crucial for comfortable syncing.

Just few days ago I fully switched to a Mac (I still kept my two PC’s as support machines). I bought a new MacBook Pro 17 inch and LED Cinema Display 24 inch. Two wireless routers (AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express) are connecting all computers excellent.

While backing up documents has always been my weakest point, WD My Book Studio II (2 TB) and WD My Book Essential (1 TB) are now keeping all the data as safe as possible. Moving all documents to a cloud (like MobileMe’s iDisk) isn’t yet a solution for me, because of the relative large amount of documents and slow connections in our country.

New identity, webpage redesign & writing blog in English

After some time of silence my blog is going to wake up. This is my first blog post in English, so I apologize for my grammar. The new Morphix identity and webpage got some great response from international visitors. After submitting it to CSS Mania they published it on the first page and also selected it in the CSS Mania Selections. This is the reason I got a lot of positive response. My Google Analytics dashboard showed an over 2000% jump of unique visitors.

The website also got published on bunch of sites: The CSS Awards (Site of the Day), CSSmayo (Site of the Day), DesignAwardsGallery, Nicely Done CSS, Design Fridge, CSS Illustrated, CSS Brigit, CSS Based, CSS Cookie, CSS Machine, CSS Design Yorkshire, DesignFlavr, The CSS Awards, Web Creme and others.

The idea for the new website is actually simple. It is a single-page website, divided into three sections. You can navigate around with scrolling or using the navigation button on every section. The graphics on every section are dinamic adjusted to different user screen resolutions. I also got some suggestions for adding jQuery scrolling to my site, what I did today.

Before redesigning my main website, I have done some design work on the Morphix Identity too. The typography is Underware‘s Liza Pro, with some minor modifications.

Visi pri Microsoftu in Googlu, Apple ima naročeno. Zemljevid velikosti A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm), ki krasi te izjemne prostore, prihaja v prenovljeni četrti različici. Je plod švicarsko-japonskega oblikovalskega biroja Information Architects. Prikazuje 333 najvplivnejših spletnih domen in 111 spletnih osebnosti, v obliki karte tokijske podzemne železnice.

Vsaka domena ima svojo postajo. Višina postaje zrcali njen gospodarski uspeh, širina pa njeno stabilnost. Domene, med katerimi obstaja kakšna povezanost, ležijo skupaj. Postaje so povezane z ustrezno “linijo” (npr. kreativna, novičarska, oglaševalska linija,…).

Digitalna različica zemljevida, v velikosti 6740 x 4768 pikslov, je na Flickr-ju. PDF-a letos sicer ne bo, se pa pripravlja interaktivna spletna predstavitev. Za vse, ki jim ni škoda 49 dolarjev, pa ga lahko naročijo v fizični obliki.

Oblikovanje spletne predstavitve – Perutnina Ptuj

Po objavi nekaj logotipov in celostnih podob je tokrat na vrsti predstavitev spletnega projekta – oblikovanje spletnih strani za skupino Perutnina Ptuj. Šlo je za popolno prenovo videza ter vsebine spletne pojavnosti, pod vodstvom spletne agencije Refresh. Osebno sem bil zadolžen za grafično pojavnost ter svetovanje pri arhitekturni zasnovi strani.

Čeprav na prvi pogled mogoče ni izrazito, gre za precej kompleksen spletni projekt. Združitev treh samostojnih blagovnih znamk, več kot 100 posamičnih izdelkov in predstavitev ravno toliko receptov, zahteva poleg oblikovalskih spretnosti tudi pretehtan arhitekturni pristop. Strukturno je stran razdeljena na potrošniški del (primarna navigacija) in korporacijo (sekundarno).

Nadaljujem z objavljanjem preteklih projektov. Tokrat nepremičninski projekt družbe A3, d.o.o., pri katerem sem, tako pri logotipu kot pri samih barvah in postavitvah, imel povsem proste roke. Tudi 3-dimenzionalne simulacije, prejete s strani arhitekta, so bile čudovite. Poleg osnovne podobe (logotipa) je bilo potrebno oblikovati majhno predstavitveno zloženko, spletno predstavitev ter časopisne oglase.

Že nekaj časa mi je prav žal, da sem blog tako zapostavil. Enostavno je bilo preveč obveznosti. Ravno naslednji mesec bo namreč tretja obletnica bloga. Pa mislim, da niti nisem edini, ki ga je blogerska mrzlica zapustila.

Da ne bo blog še naprej umiral, bom objavil nekaj preteklih oblikovanj, predvsem celostnih grafičnih podob. Seveda nisem v preteklih mesecih delal zgolj celostnih podob, ravno nasprotno. Moram pa vseeno priznati, da mi je postalo precej všeč.
